2 Corinthians 1 - A Few Things To Do With Our Seasons of Affliction
1. Worship (vs 3): What do most do when “despairing of life itself” as Paul did? Question God. Doubt His goodness. Paul encourages us to “bless” God. He is the fountain of undeserved goodness.
2. Draw near to God (vs. 4): “God comforts us in all our affliction.” It sure doesn’t feel like it sometimes! Our tendency is to find comfort in something or someone more tangible during those times. God is the God of all comfort though. Draw near to Him in those seasons.
3. Comfort others (vs. 4): As we are fighting to do #1&2, we will find ourselves in situations later to be able to give critical hope to others in their seasons of affliction.
4. Learn to no rely on ourselves (vs. 9): Our sinful nature default is to believe that we have what it takes to get through the hard times. We naturally rely on our strength and resources now. Seasons of affliction draw out our weaknesses. Remember that God not only raises people from the dead, but He killed and raised Jesus with all power in order to show how much He loves you and me. Rely on His resources in seasons of affliction. Hopefully this will lead us to sweet worship.
